Maddie Paton
When Muddy Jewels’ drummer, Maddie, picked up drumming in the school band at age 9, she found the perfect release of emotion. After spending many years playing along to her favourite songs on a janky electronic drum kit in her bedroom, Maddie started playing in little local bands with her TAFE classmates before she was legally allowed to be in the venues she was playing in. Over the last 3 years Maddie has played with multiple bands in the Sydney scene and has gained the chops to get away with playing in a grunge/rock/punk band while wearing a Spice Girls tee. If you asked Maddie who her biggest inspiration is she’d simply say, “Kesha”. If she HAD to name a favourite drummer? INXS’ Jon Farriss. In Muddy Jewels, Maddie’s pop influences are thrown out the window and she is left with what she loves the most about playing the drums, the release of emotion that she still lets out on the drums over a decade after she first started.
Jazz Finch
Jazz has been passionate about music since the age of 7 with experience in singing, classical guitar and piano. It was during the COVID lockdowns where she discovered a strong connection and love for playing the bass. Jazz’s biggest strength is knowing what’s right for the music, never playing anything boring but never doing too much. Her consistency makes her a solid part of the Muddy Jewels’ rhythm section, even with it being her first venture into more heavier genres as a bassist. Just by watching Jazz onstage you can see the love she has for her instrument.
James De La Cuadra
James, the guitarist and lead vocalist of Muddy Jewels, discovered his passion for guitar at the age of 17, drawn to the raw, emotive sound of the 90s alt-rock scene. Influenced by the DIY ethics of punk and the intensity of metal, he found his musical niche and inspiration in bands such as Nirvana, Misfits, Bikini Kill, Metallica, and Mudhoney. James' voice carries the weight of his influences, seeking to captivate audiences and evoke the raw emotions embedded in Muddy Jewels' music. His guitar playing is characterised by the simplicity of chords and riffs with the expression profound emotions conveyed through Muddy Jewels' music.
